About Précis
Précis makes short explainers about the news that reaches your wallet — gas, rates, tariffs, your power bill — built around one question: what did the headline leave out?
Editorial standards
- Primary sources first. Factual claims are checked against the original document — a filing, an order, a dataset — before a script is recorded.
- Sources published for full explainers. Each full explainer has a page here listing every claim, where to find it, and what it does not show, so a true number isn’t stretched into a false one.
- The Shorts archive. Earlier Shorts (March–June 2026) were sourced when they were made, but their sources are not yet published here. Each is dated; treat its figures as of that date.
- Disagreement shown. When credible evidence cuts the other way, the story says so rather than leaving it out.
- Dated. Stories show when they were published; figures are as of that date.
- No financial advice, and no partisan opinion without a measurable effect on you.
How the videos are made
- AI narration, disclosed. Scripts are researched and fact-checked first; the voice is generated.
- Generated images illustrate; they never testify. Charts, numbers, maps and labels are drawn from the data. Illustrations are labelled on screen.
- No stock footage, and no generated imagery of real people or places presented as real.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, the correction is recorded on the affected story’s page with the date and what changed. To report an error, email corrections@precis.news.
